Today in the midst of one of my upper level classes, I couldn't help but bust out laughing. We were practicing using different adjectives for both people and things, such as exciting vs. excited. Each of the kids were writing out different sentences and they really were getting along quite well with things. They had been responding to the questions: What is exciting to you? as well as: What makes you scared? They each read their sentences and I figured it was my turn. With a show of enthusiasm, I came up with the sentence: Salsa dancing is exciting to me! The kids immediately started doubling over in laughter. Teacher! Teacher, sarsa dancing! They stumbled around the room half hunched over refering somehow to their butts. Teacher, water dung, sarsa! I quickly came to understand that the word "sarsa" must mean diarrhea in Korean. I can only immagine how funny it must have sounded to them, a "Diarrhea dancing is exciting to me!"
